Gabby’s Servant Leader story

While attending a Prayer & Share at His Mansion in the spring of 2024, Gabby Frueh was witnessing something she had never experienced. Residents were vulnerable, open and honest in sharing their struggles and victories. The transparency was alluring and spoke deeply to her. It also challenged her about her own addictive tendencies and encouraged her own repentance.

She was on The Hill as part of a spring break trip and work team from Wheaton College, working alongside Residents and experiencing His Mansion life firsthand. During that week she heard of the need for Servant Leaders. She pursued more information and began to pray and listen for the Lord’s will about returning to serve. After much prayer and further conversation with staff, she applied to the SL program, honest about her own struggles and shame, and was met with understanding and support. She was accepted and returned after graduating from Wheaton in the autumn of 2024.

The role of a Servant Leader is hard work. Gabby was challenged by her own doubts and insecurities while learning to lead others through conflict and healing. God met her through prayer, scripture and mentoring. She learned to “speak the truth in love,” becoming a friendly and confident leader while experiencing her own healing, and attained new depths of understanding, forgiveness and acceptance as her walk with Jesus matured. The SL year “changed my life spiritually and emotionally,” she recalls. She allowed God to “be curious” and examine and search her own heart.

A scripture that sustained her is Ecclesiastes 7:14: “In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider: God has made the one as well as the other, so that man may not find out anything that will be after him.” She gives thanks to the Lord who strengthened her through the joy of leading others, the challenges of providing 24/7 communal care, and the personal healing of the past year.

Gabby now serves on staff as the Communication Specialist for His Mansion. Her training in economics, marketing and psychology is used to better communicate the mission and story of the ministry.
