More than he bargained for
In the summer of 2021, Andrew Lie visited His Mansion in a Work Group. “What I can remember very distinctly from that first trip was the community and culture of His Mansion,” Andrew reflects, “something was different.” He returned in August 2023 as a Servant Leader, intending to serve the Lord and to learn what made His Mansion different.
Born in New Jersey, Andrew grew up attending church every Sunday “even in the womb.” From a young age he participated in many mission trips, domestically and internationally. As a college freshman, God led him to dedicate the “first fruits” of his life to Christ before pursuing a career or further education. In 2023 he graduated college and became a Servant Leader at twenty-one.
After he arrived, God started teaching him to see people how Jesus sees them. As he heard others’ stories, God grew him in compassion and understanding of Christ’s heart. “You know, when you see God’s grace toward other sinners, that makes you realize God’s grace for yourself,” Andrew observes.
As he came to embrace God’s grace he started to see God more clearly. “One huge lesson of the Servant Leader Program is realizing you cannot change anybody,” Andrew says. He would often share the gospel with Residents and see no change, but then look back months later and “see God’s hand in everything.” That realization helped him value dependence on Jesus. He was used to accomplishing goals and depending on his skills in ministry, but at His Mansion, “In order to get through each day, the focus is heavily on depending on Jesus.”
Andrew completed his Servant Leader year in August 2024 and volunteers regularly at His Mansion as he prepares to enter medical school.
Send an outreach team to The Hill
His Mansion provides an opportunity for a church’s outreach program. By sending a Work Group to The Hill, you will have the chance to experience and impact the community in this ministry setting. These week-long trips include work, daily worship, fellowship, and most importantly relationships that help bring the love of Christ to Residents and Servant Leaders.
Work includes property maintenance, gardening, cooking and construction.

A letter from the Executive Director
After experiencing His Mansion through a Work Group mission trip, Andrew recognized that something unique and compelling was taking place on The Hill. He returned as a Servant Leader, ready to serve and deploy his knowledge, education and skills to make an impact on the community. In the process, he found God revealing His heart and character, and came to understand God’s love in new and profound ways.
I find Andrew’s experience to be very relatable. Every day, I see God at work in the lives on The Hill. Every day, I have the opportunity to encounter the love of God and see that love changing someone’s life. Every day, I see how God’s faithful love continues to change me. I often say, “I can’t believe I get to do this.”
Serving God at His Mansion is a calling, first and foremost. In fact, with any potential staff member, the leadership team is joining them in a discernment process. Is this something God is calling them to in order to serve God and others in this communal ministry, or is this a self-serving desire in order to find fulfillment in community?
Calling is critical to working at His Mansion. Perhaps the sweetest truth I have found while living out this calling is the truth that His calling to follow Him in self-giving service ends up being a calling to know Him deeper and deeper each step of the way.
Maybe God is calling you to follow Him in ministry. Maybe He is calling you to serve at His Mansion. We have openings on staff and in the Servant Leader Program.
